About Me
Hello! I’m Ben Bloom and I’m a Software Engineer.
I have been programming since my early years in high school. I enjoy building and hacking things. Recently, my passions are cloud technologies on AWS and mobile development on iOS.
Programming Languages I have fun with: Swift, Python, and Javascript
Techonolgies I have experience with: AWS, Serverless, iOS Development, Ansible and Git
Experience
When I first joined Magellan Health, I worked on AWS and iOS. I was responsible for creating the backend for an iOS application using serverless technologies. I also assisted in the development of the iOS application in Swift.
After a while, I was transferred to the AWS Cloud Infrastructure team at Magellan Health. Today, I help manage Magellan Health’s AWS Infrastructure of over 50 AWS accounts. I primary work on automating workflows, guiding teams new to the cloud, and building best practices infrastructures used throughout the organization.
While at OSU, I worked on motion tracking experiments at The Ohio State’s Department of Psychology. I created MATLAB software to collect and analyze subjects’ data. During my time here, I used object-oriented design to greatly improve development time. What used to take weeks to implement, now only takes a few days.
As an iOS Developer Intern, I was responsible for the development of Healthy Roster’s iOS application in Swift. I added a variety of features while I was the sole developer working on the product. Some of the features included creating a secure way of collecting student athletes’ information, implementing major UX and UI updates, and integrating new api endpoints that connected the application to Healthy Roster’s databases.
During my time at 2Checkout, my primary task was to create SDKs that integrated with their new api. I created a new client facing libaries in Ruby, C#, and Javscript.
Education
The Ohio State University
B.S. Computer Science and Engineering
2013 - 2017
Throughout my time at The Ohio State University, I explored a diverse subject matter and work with many incredible people. I learned many technical skills and techniques while working on fun and interesting projects. Some projects included CTFs in information security, basic image detection programs in AI, and a fitness dashboard in web applications.
While at Ohio State, I also had the privilege to be a part of the first class of the Integrated Business and Engineering Honors Program. This is a four year program that is designed to develop the ability to communicate across business and technical domains by bringing together incredible students from many different backgrounds.
Life Outside the Code
While coding and developing software are major passions of mine, I do like to get out and explore other things. When not on a computer, I enjoy running and working out. I staying active helps me maintain my sanity when squashing bugs in my code. I also consider myself a bit of a sneakerhead. I am always on the lookout for the newest and greatest shoe release.
